— THE UR FRAMEWORK
The Résumé
Platforms, real-time control systems, and the work in motion
Systems thinker and software engineer. About seven years building platform architecture, real-time control systems, and developer infrastructure for clean energy. See now for what I'm working on this week.
experience
Founding Engineer / Technical Lead (Software Architect) · Acelerex · Remote / Boston, MA · Nov 2018 — Dec 2025
Platform & distributed systems
- Established a standardized application and data platform across all products, enabling rapid feature delivery while preserving long-term maintainability under severe resource constraints. Stack: Vue.js, Node.js, TimescaleDB, DuckDB.
- Designed a job-queue and worker execution system for bursty, low-duty-cycle workloads — running C++, Python, and ML training/inference jobs cost-efficiently without over-provisioning infrastructure.
Real-time data & control
- Led a ground-up rewrite of a legacy C++ SCADA system into a local-first TypeScript architecture, maintaining reliable real-time control of 30+ MW of deployed solar and storage assets while significantly improving development velocity. Integrated MATLAB/Simulink control models and TimescaleDB-backed dashboards.
- Architected real-time data pipelines ingesting 70,000+ metrics at sub-second resolution from Modbus, DNP3, and OPC UA sources — the backbone for monitoring, control, analytics, and ML-driven forecasting.
Product delivery & user experience
- Delivered a grid-simulation system on the unified platform, replacing a legacy tool and enabling faster analysis, visualization, and reporting for clients including the World Bank and international energy agencies.
- Served as de facto product and UX design lead across internal tools, operational dashboards, and customer-facing applications — translating complex problem domains into usable, trusted workflows.
Infrastructure, security, & leadership
- Grew and mentored a 5-person globally distributed engineering team, serving as primary technical decision-maker. Established standards for architecture, code review, shared ownership, and iterative delivery aligned with business goals.
- Standardized cloud infrastructure and operations on Azure, selecting tooling and automation to minimize operational overhead while preserving observability, security, and reproducibility across environments.
- Designed and operated systems aligned with NIST guidance for critical infrastructure — MFA, least-privilege access, network segmentation, CI security scanning, and secure remote connectivity via Tailscale.
skills
Languages — TypeScript, Python, C++, Rust, Java. Working: Clojure/ClojureScript. Reading: Lean4.
Technologies — Vue.js, React, Node.js, WebSocket, PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB, Emscripten, Docker, Terraform, GitLab CI/CD, Cloudflare, Tailscale, Azure, Google Cloud. Secure system design: MFA, secrets management, zero-trust networking.
Systems — Distributed control, real-time data pipelines, time-series databases, message queues, content-addressed storage, formal verification, graph databases (Datalog/Datascript), local-first architecture.
Approach — Derive, don't assert. Map dynamics before designing. Progressive enhancement. Fail visibly. Short feedback loops. Systems over goals.
projects
Hydra · github.com/dyllan-to-you/hydra
Python-based quantitative trading system focused on rapid research iteration and large-scale backtesting. Stack: Jupyter, pandas, numba, vectorbt, dask.

building
The Ur specification grammar is operational. Currently: shipping the first product (Verve MVP) and launching this site. Open to contract and freelance work on the side — see résumé.
thinking about
How AI agents coordinate through shared representations instead of alongside each other. What falls out when you derive an ontology instead of designing one. Whether the psychonaut-systems-thinker-who-builds-formal-ontologies niche is a viable personal brand or just a very specific way to be unemployable.
listening to
Looping, layering, deconstructing. Always building the next set.
